According to recent Apple data, 68% of iPhones are using iOS 18

Apple highlighted iOS 18 user adoption in new data released on Friday. 68% of compatible devices currently have the mobile operating system loaded, which was first made available to the public in September 2024. For iPhones manufactured during the last four years, that percentage rises to 78%.
13% of the remaining iPhones are running an older version of iOS 17, while 19% are on iOS 17. In a similar vein, iOS 17 is presently installed on 19% of iPhones manufactured in the last four years.
Given the overall percentage of devices that came with either iOS 17 or 18, as well as early adopters’ inclination to maintain their smartphones running the most recent OS updates, it makes sense that the figure reduces to 5% with prior iOS releases. The numbers are comparable to those Apple released in 2024 regarding the adoption of iOS 17, as noted by 9 to 5 Mac.
The flagship feature of iOS 18 was Apple Intelligence, the company’s small model approach to generative AI. That came with the first significant update to the operating system, 18.1, then 18.2 brought more features. The public version is 18.2.1 at the moment. Apple Intelligence has, of course, made several mistakes early on, one of which necessitated the removal of news notification summaries.
In contrast, iPadOS 18’s adoption rates are significantly lower than those of its mobile version. At the moment, iPadOS 18 is installed on 53% of all iPads. For those issued within the last four years, that percentage rises to 63%.
