By 2025, WhatsApp will no longer function on outdated Android smartphones. Will your phone continue to work?

WhatsApp will stop supporting KitKat and older Android smartphones on January 1, 2025. To access new capabilities, users of well-known devices, such as the HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy S3, will need to upgrade. The deadline for iPhone users is May 5, 2025.
By 2025, WhatsApp plans to stop supporting older Android smartphones. WhatsApp will no longer function on Android phones running Android KitKat or earlier versions as of January 1. Users of earlier Android models would have to update their phones in order to continue using the personal messaging app as a result of the recent adjustment.
Because the hardware on older Android devices cannot support the new capabilities coming to the app, WhatsApp is discontinuing support for these devices. Given that WhatsApp doubled down on its AI efforts with several similar features after adding support for Meta AI earlier this year, this would make a lot of sense.
For those who are unaware, Google discontinued support for the Android operating system earlier this year, and the Android KitKat was first released in 2013.
