Many US TikTok users expressed their experience and said the app feels different after the ban lifted

TikTok users in the U.S., who previously regarded the app as a refuge for free expression, now perceive indications of censorship following its revival through an executive order by President Donald Trump, with the platform being owned by China’s ByteDance.

TikTok users are observing a change in the short-video platform after its return from being offline on Saturday due to a new law — implemented over national security issues during the Biden era with bipartisan backing — that mandates it to be sold to an American buyer. Trump has promised to seek a resolution to the ban, with multiple bidders involved, including individuals with strong ties to the new Republican president.

But some users said they now see more content moderation, like limited search results, as well as warnings about misinformation and prompts for users to check their sources.

TikTok said in a statement

“Our policies and algorithms did not change over the weekend,”

“We are working hard to restore our U.S. operations back to normal and expect some temporary instability as we restore our services, which could impact TikTok features or users’ access to the app.”

TikTok claimed in striking comments phrases like “Free Palestine” & “Free Luigi,” as the reference to Luigi Mangione. Luigi Mangione was accused of killing a UnitedHealth executive.

TikTok also added it does not allow content that can spark violent or hateful individuals on this platform.

Trump signed an executive order on Monday. He also said to restore freedom of speech and end censorship, while referring the social media platforms.

Content creator and comedian veteran Pat Loller, 36, stated it was a satirical video that he created in response to the billionaire Elon Musk’s hand gesture at an inauguration event. It looks like a Nazi salute.
