Tesla is redesigning their Model Y and launching in North America for $60,000

The announcement was made just two weeks after Tesla announced the arrival of the SUV in China and other Asian markets in March. Also unveiling of the redesigned Model Y. With Thursday’s announcement, the company is essentially introducing the updated SUV globally at the same time. That is different from the several-month lag between the late 2023 and early 2024 Asian and North American launches of the Model 3 sedan refresh.

Tesla, which delivered fewer cars in 2024 than it did in 2023. They are launching the updated Model Y at a pivotal moment. Following the triumph of the Model Y, Tesla has repeatedly cautioned investors that it is currently between “two major growth waves” and pledged to introduce enigmatic new cars that will be manufactured on current production lines.

Although it’s unclear by how much, those vehicles will probably be less expensive than Tesla’s current lineup, which starts in the low $40,000 area.

These new vehicles, along with the Cybercab that was hinted at last October. That would aid in the company’s transition from a carmaker to a robotics and artificial intelligence player.

However, Tesla’s lineup of cars has been getting older at the same time. All of Tesla’s main models, including the Model X and Y SUVs and the Model S and 3 sedans, have now been updated.

The Cybertruck is the only genuinely new model it has introduced in the previous four years. The Cybertruck did little to improve the company’s financial line last year. It does not appear to be the huge smash Musk had hoped for. Even despite becoming the best-selling electric truck in the United States in 2024.

Despite being more expensive than the current models, the updated Model Y might provide some respite. For the all-wheel-drive version, the “Launch Series” special edition starts at $59,990. This offers customers a battery with a range of 320 miles and comes with Tesla’s most sophisticated driver-assistance software, referred to as “Full Self-Driving (Supervised)” and usually priced at $8,000 per unit. The base price of the earlier Model Y, which has a 337-mile rear-wheel drive range, is presently $44,990.

The exterior of the new Model Y has seen the most visible alterations. The bouncy front fascia has been replaced with a more pinched snout with a thin light bar that runs across the hood. Additionally, a full-width light strip has been added to the back of the car.

Tesla has introduced a customizable light strip around the cabin of the updated SUV. Along with certain quality-of-life enhancements like motorized rear seats and better suspension, there’s a new rear-passenger touchscreen.
