Zuck entirely ignores DeepSeek, professes to spend hundreds of billions on AI

The entire US market panicked over speculation about DeepSeek’s AI models. This model can crush the demand for the GPU and Nvidia’s stock dropping by 20%. Meta is not backing off CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s promise that the tech giant would invest “very heavily” in AI. Even “hundreds of billions of dollars” over the long term. He also said Meta’s first quarter earnings call on Wednesday.
Zuckerberg announced in the last week that Meta is planning to spend more than $60 billion in 2025 alone on capital expenditures. That is primarily on data centers.
In answer to an analyst’s question about DeepSeek’s influence on Meta’s AI spending.
Zuckerberg said spending heavily on AI infrastructure will continue to be a “strategic advantage” for Meta.
Meta views DeepSeek as a new rival and is taking insights from it, but it’s “way too early” to determine if the demand for chips will cease to rise since they are essential for inference, Zuckerberg stated, emphasizing that Meta has billions of users.
Zuckerberg comment
“At this point, I would bet that the ability to build out that kind of infrastructure is going to be a major advantage for both the quality of the service and being able to serve the scale that we want to,”.
Zuckerberg stated that Meta aims for its upcoming model, Llama 4, to be the most competitive globally, even against closed models such as ChatGPT. He remarked that he anticipates it to possess agentic abilities — an area that both OpenAI and Anthropic are pursuing — as well as multimodal features.
He also said
“Our goal with Llama 3 was to make open source competitive with closed models,”. “And our goal for Llama 4 is to lead.”
