OpenAI co-founder John Schulman is reportedly joining the former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati’s secretive new startup. He left the AI startup Anthropic last week after a mere five months. Still, now it’s not clear what Schulman’s role will be there. Murati has been tight-lipped about the new venture since she left Open AI in September. According to one source, Murati has recruited additional Ex-Open AI staff including Christian Gibson, who had been suited to OpenAI’s supercomputing team.
Murati reportedly talked about the raise of over $100 million for her company in October.
Known for being one of the main designers of ChatGPT, Schulman departed OpenAI for Anthropic in August of last year. He explained the decision in a post on X, stating that he wanted to do more practical technical work and focus more on AI alignment, which is the science of making sure AI acts as intended.
