Woman unintentionally tossed away her ex’s £569 million in Bitcoin, and say ‘I’m sick of hearing about it’
Hafina Eddy-Evans has talked about the terrible day she realized she had thrown away a million and how she informed her ex-boyfriend that his fortune was gone. She acknowledged throwing away an old hard drive at a Welsh landfill without realizing it had 8,000 Bitcoins, which James Howells had mined in 2009 and are currently worth an astounding £569 million.
Hafina alleges she threw away the hard drive around 10 years ago, and Howell is currently fighting for permission to search the Newport Council dump site. Even though they are no longer together, Hafina told Mail Online that she hopes he finds success in his quest—not so that she can have a piece of the wealth, but so that she may finally silence him.
She said
“Yes, I threw away his rubbish, he asked me to. The computer part had been disposed of in a black sack along with other unwanted belongings and he begged me to take it away. I had no idea what was in it but I reluctantly dropped it off at the local tip on the way home from going on the school run.”
She also added
“I thought he should be running his errands, not me, but I did it to help out. Losing it was not my fault. I’d love nothing more than him to find it. I’m sick and tired of hearing about it.”
According to the Mirror, James Howells is pursuing the council in court in an attempt to retrieve the digital “key” to his Bitcoin riches, which is thought to be buried beneath 110,000 tons of trash on grass-covered property.
With the ‘lost’ riches now worth an incredible £569 million in Bitcoin, the man has pledged to donate 10% of his wealth back to his community. A mother of two, Ms. Eddy-Evans, expressed her mixed emotions.
“Part of me thinks the council should let the tip site be dug up, it’s not helping his mental health with the thoughts of sitting in a fortune he can’t get. But the other part thinks for him just to drop it and let it go.”
She stated
“I have no claim on whatever money he could be worth. He is the father of my two sons but I don’t want a penny of his money.”
