Astrohaus Introduces A Writer’s Mechanical Keyboard

Astrohaus has established itself in a very particular market. The business, situated in Michigan, manufactures devices for writers who want to block out distractions. After all, with Instagram around, it’s incredibly difficult to finish that novel.

Although the corporation has established a reputation for defying most technological trends, its most recent product has found a way to join the trend. Wordrunner, which was unveiled at CES 2025, welcomes the mechanical keyboard boom while adhering to Astrohaus’ stated goal of writing without interruption.

Essentially, the Freewrite Wordrunner is a typical mechanical keyboard with a few features tailored to writers. In particular, the peripheral features a “sprint timer” for writing and a Wordometer (word count).

The goal is to incorporate productivity tools right into the product. In essence, Astrohaus is providing a means of avoiding creating applications and concentrating on the actual writing.

“Writers use keyboards more than almost anyone else, yet they’ve never had professional-grade tools built specifically for them,” founder and CEO Adam Leeb says. “While gamers have an entire industry creating specialized features for them, writers have been forced to rely on general-purpose keyboards and add-on software to track their work. Wordrunner transforms this relationship by making the keyboard itself an active participant in the writing process — not just a passive input device, but a true writing companion.”

The aluminum keyboard features a red control knob and floating keys. The system is scheduled to ship in late 2025, and it will launch on Kickstarter in February.
