Sweden’s ‘Soft Girl’ Directed To Celebrate Women Quitting Work
Sweden always takes a lead role in promoting gender equality. But some young women are starting to embrace the social media trend that celebrates quitting work and starting their lives as stay-at-home-girlfriends. This is how Vilma Larsson’s concept became so popular. These 25-year-old young women say she had never been so happy before. Vilma Larsson also said
“My life is softer. I am not struggling. I am not very stressed.”
Her boyfriend works in the finance sector remotely and he spends most of his time on his laptop. On the other hand, Vilma Larsson spends his entire day at the gym having coffee and cooking. This couple grew up in a small town in Sweden but now they are traveling a lot and spending the winter in Cyprus.
Ms. Larsson also explain
“Every month he gives me a salary from his money that he made. But if I need more, I’ll ask him. Or if I need less, I don’t – I just save the rest,”.
She frequently shares all of her lifestyle on Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok. Her videos are getting more than 400,000 likes. At present, she has 11,000 no of followers. According to Vilma Larsson she is not making any income from his published contents.
She uses the hashtags “hemmaflickvän” and “hemmafru” the meanings are Swedish for stay-at-home girlfriend and housewife. They also describe herself as a “soft girl”. She is there to identify and embrace a softer, more feminine way of living rather than concentrating on a career.
This soft girl lifestyle is slowly becoming popular on social media trends and has become a microtrend on social media since 2010. But this trend is very fresh and new in Sweden. This micro trend sparked both surprise and division. This is the trendiest concept of 2024.
Another study terminated by Ungdomsbaromatern this August suggested it was even becoming an aspiration among younger schoolgirls. 14% of the seven to 14-year-olds identify as soft girls.
Johanna Göransson, a researcher for Ungdomsbarometern also said
“It’s about leaning away from this ‘girl boss’ ideal that we’ve seen for a lot of years, where there are very, very high demands for success in every aspect of life,”.
But despite these facts, there is no such official report correct data on the number of young soft girls data who like to stop work altogether and live off their partners like Ms Larsson and Ms Göransson who said it is likely to be a small proportion.
