TikTok set is to be restricted in the US after failing appeal
Tik Tok’s bid to overturn a law that would see it banned or sold in the United States from early 2025 has been rejected. The social media company hoped for approval from the Federal court by winning the argument. The law was unconstitutional hence it represented a “staggering” impact on the free speech of its 170 million US users. The court upheld the law that was said
“was the culmination of extensive, bipartisan action by the Congress and by successive presidents”.
TikTok also says it will now carry its fight to the US Supreme Court. This is the country’s highest legal authority. The United States wants TikTok to be sold or banned because it says that its owners are linked to the Chinese state and links TikTok and its parent company Bytedance have always denied.
The court agreed and addressed the law was
“carefully crafted to deal only with control by a foreign adversary, and it was part of a broader effort to counter a well-substantiated national security threat posed by the PRC (People’s Republic of China).”
TikTok also said “it was not the end of its legal fight”
“The Supreme Court has an established historical record of protecting Americans’ right to free speech, and we expect they will do just that on this important constitutional issue,”
Also, there is the part that added an address as the
“inaccurate, flawed and hypothetical information”. It has banned censoring the US citizens.
Donald Trump’s victory in 2024 in the president’s election also presents a lifeline for the application.
Despite having unsuccessfully attempted to ban TikTok during his first term in 2020. He stated he would not going to allow the banning on TikTok to take effect.
